Creating an Expressive Collage

Intermediate Art

Identify a one-word idea and use this as the theme for your collage. From magazines and newspapers, tear out pages that contain images, words, colors, and textures that you associate with this idea. Tear these pages into a variety of large and small irregular shapes and arrange them on your paper. Establish a focal point or center of interest for your composition. To do this, contrast hues, intensities, and values of the surrounding shapes. Glue in place. Choose colors you associate with the idea, mood, or feeling you are trying to communicate.

Objective
Express as clearly as possible a one-word idea in visual form

Standard
Understand how design influences artistic expression.
